I’m back in Sydney after a wonderful month away, as I’ve shared over the past three short posts. I’ve been back in the clinic seeing clients, catching up on admin, and settling back into the rhythm of work.
And today is the day I usually write my Erotic Provocateur essay.
I had a topic prepared and was all ready to go. So I sat down to write and…
…I couldn’t.
Just couldn’t.
Not because I’m burnt out. Quite the opposite. I’m feeling refreshed after the break.
Not because I’ve lost my inspiration. Quite the opposite. I’m full of ideas and excited to share them.
I started anyway. Wrote a few paragraphs. But I wasn’t feeling it.
I felt that familiar urge to push myself through it.
However, to my credit, I didn’t. My body, and perhaps my soul, simply aren’t ready to return to the pace I left behind before the break.
So today, I gave myself permission not to write an essay.
Well... not the essay I had planned.
Instead, I want to share this small reminder, because I suspect I’m not the only one who needs to hear it.
Slowing down isn’t something we do on holiday.
It’s something we continue to choose when we come home.
In two weeks’ time (because I’m going fortnightly for the rest of the year while I write my book), I’ll share the essay that wasn’t ready to be written today.
I’m quite sure it will be all the better for having waited.
And while I’m here…
There are still a few places available for my October Couples Retreat in the Blue Mountains.
If you’d like to spend a weekend slowing down together and reconnecting as lovers, I’d love you to join me.
